Teacher’s/Leader’s Guide for Writing is FUN! The activities below can help reinforce the material in this We Wonder ® workbook when used in the classroom. Many are experiential, helping students work together to better understand issues related to writing and to improve skills needed for success in school and life. You can also use these activities to help students meet select Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts (CCSS.ELA) and for Mathematics (CCSS.Mathematics). Correlations to specific standards are listed below each activity. Visit www.corestandards.org/ELA-Literacy and www.corestandards.org/Math to learn more. Page 2—Parents Page Every We Wonder includes a guide for parents. Encourage parents to use this guide to help their children get the most out of the activities in We Wonder. Ask each child to bring in something from home that has letters or words on it. When each child shows the class his or her object, talk about what the object is, what letters are shown and what the letters tell us (for example, letters on a cereal box tell us what is inside the box). Talk about the colors, sizes and shapes of the letters. Look for things in the classroom that also have letters. Using a letter puzzle, magnetic letters or flashcards, give each child his or her own letter. Ask the children to raise their hand when you describe their letter. For example: • Who has a short letter? • Who has a tall letter? • Who has a round letter? • Who has a straight letter? • Who has a letter from their name? Or, write various letters on the board and ask whose letter matches what you have written.
