The activities below can help reinforce the material in this What’s Up ® workbook when used in the classroom. Many are experiential, helping students work together to better understand issues related to cyberbullying and to improve skills needed for success in school and life. You can also use these activities to help students meet select Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts (CCSS.ELA). Correlations to specific standards are listed below each activity. Visit www.corestandards.org/ELA-Literacy to learn more. ® Teacher’s/Leader’s Guide for Pages 4-5: Discussion Ask students about cyberbullying they have experienced or witnessed. Prompt the discussion by asking these questions: • Have you ever witnessed an act of cyberbullying? • What type of cyberbullying was it? • Where did it happen (for example, a social media site)? • Was the incident reported to anyone? • Do you think cyberbullying is a problem among students? Ask students not to use names when discussing cyberbullying incidents. Wrap up the discussion by asking students what they think they can do to help prevent cyberbullying. Next, ask them to imagine that the character was being cyberbullied. Ask them to write a short story or play describing the cyberbullying, using each of the examples on this page. Ask them to address the following questions in their stories or plays: • Why do you think this character was cyberbullied? • How did the character react? • If the character was a student at this school, what do you think he or she should do about the cyberbullying?
