Ask them what the people in each picture do. Be sure they understand that firefighters, law enforcement officers and emergency medical personnel work to help keep people safe. Have children draw a picture of someone who helps keep them safe. It could be a parent, adult relative, teacher or someone they know who works in public safety. Invite someone who works in public safety to talk to the children. Ask him or her to discuss: • the kind of work he or she does • how that work helps children stay safe • ways that he or she helps in an emergency.
