Teacher’s/Leader’s Guide for ® Bus safety rules! Page 2: What is school bus safety? Write your students’ answers to this question on a flip chart/blackboard. Then, have a class discussion based on students’ responses. This activity allows students to share what they already know and think about school bus safety. You may also want to ask students if they have any questions about school bus safety. Then, as your class works through Know What?—Bus safety rules!, look for the answers. Help students use the school library or the Internet to find answers to questions that the workbook does not address. For a fun activity, gather a variety of old hats, scarves, sunglasses, mittens, bright-colored shirts, etc., and put them in a large cardboard box. Ask students to think of a weather forecast and write it on a piece of paper. (Examples include rainy, sunny, cold, etc.) Put the paper into a hat. Let each student pick a piece of paper from the hat. Then, set a timer to see how long it takes each student to choose clothes from the box and dress for the weather forecast on his or her piece of paper. Keep track of each student’s time on the blackboard to see who can get ready the fastest!
